Is what we do, really making a difference? I mean like really?
A phone call came in from a customer today. Eight months ago we attended this property to install a bathroom vanity.
The installation was done perfectly, however now the customer had a carpenter there to make some changes to the skirting board and was also having some tiling done.
The phone call was a bit of “he said” “she said” and really we know that it all comes down to what the customer actually hears, not what was said.
So it got us talking in the office. How far does our record keeping need to be?
After all, it is very rare these kind of circumstances happen.
We already take on-site photos of all the jobs we attend and do a voice recording of what we investigated, what works took place and any recommendations we make.
But in this case, nothing was written on our invoice.
A decision was made that we would be happy to re-attend at no charge because all the customer wanted was a solution.
Most would never return or stand their ground that charges would apply.
Which brings me back to my original thought….Are we really making a difference, given that our attitudes are so different from most (which is what we pride ourselves on!).
And the conclusion is, damn straight!
It was Mahatma Ghandi that said “It’s the action, not the fruit of the action, that’s important. You have to do the right thing. It may not be in your power, may not be in your time, that there’ll be any fruit. But that doesn’t mean you stop doing the right thing. You may never know what results come from your action. But if you do nothing, there will be no result”.
